Phil Roux (51)

Chief Executive Officer

Mr Roux joined Pioneer Foods from Tiger Brands where he held the position of business executive: consumer brands as well as serving as an executive director. He has 25 years’ experience in the FMCG industry in various senior positions, including chief operating officer: Africa for Coca Cola SABCO and non-executive director of Oceana Group Ltd.

He has been with the Group since April 2013.


Tertius Carstens (54)

BEng (Chem), MBA

Executive: Essential Foods

Tertius Carstens has 20 years’ experience within the Group, before and after the merger, in managerial and executive capacities. He is the executive responsible for the Essential Foods division.

He has been with the Group for 22 years.


Thushen Govender (40)

BCom (Hons), CA(SA), MBA (UK)

Executive : International , Joint Ventures, Mergers and Acquisitions

Thushen Govender joined the Group in 2013 from Tiger Brands where he served as the executive business development, strategy and investor relations. His career commenced with Deloitte South Africa and he later transferred to the United States to gain international experience. Over the past 10 years he has been involved in business development and strategy within various emerging markets while working for Stanbic Africa and Tiger Brands respectively.

He joined the Group in October 2013.


Jay-Ann Jacobs (44)


Postgraduate Diploma (UCT): Environmental Law

Group Legal and Company Secretary

Jay-Ann Jacobs practiced as a corporate and commercial attorney for 12 years prior to joining Pioneer Foods, four of which were as a director at Cliffer Dekker Hofmeyr Inc. in Cape Town.

She has been with the Group for five years.

Executive Groceries

Felix Lombard started his career with the Group in 1995 as head of information systems at Bokomo and then Pioneer Foods. He then acted as financial manager for Sasko Maize Mills and in 1999 was promoted to executive agri business and packaging. He is currently executive responsible for the Groceries division.

He has been with the Group for 20 years.


Martin Neethling (51)

B.Soc.Sci (Economics, Politics, Bus Admin), MBA

Chief Marketing Officer

Martin Neethling’s career spans 28 years during which time he has held various senior positions within the retail, advertising and FMCG sectors including Managing Director of Berry Bush BBDO, Director for Marketing and Financial Services within the Pepkor Group and Chairman of Jay Jays. He has more recently been adjunct faculty at both the University of Cape Town and the University of Stellenbosch Business School, and researcher at the UCT Unilever Institute of Strategic Marketing.

Martin joined the Group in October 2015.


Dale Fobian (48)

Executive Human Resources: Group Services

Dale Fobian has 25 years human resources experience. He is the executive responsible for Group Services, leads the organisation’s Human Resources Forum, and co-ordinates functional strategy.

He has been with the Group for 22 years.


Piet Burger (52)

Executive: Supply Chain 
B.Eng (Chem), MBA

Piet Burger has 22 years’ experience in the supply chain and manufacturing environments.  He is responsible for Group Procurement, Logistics, Sustainability, SHE and Manufacturing.

He has been with the Group for 11 years.

Riaan Heyl (41)

Business Executive Designate: Wheat (Milling, Baking and Pasta)

Riaan Heyl held financial management positions at both corporate and divisional level before being promoted to General Manager of the Essential Foods Grains Division in 2007. He was appointed as Managing Executive of the Bakeries business in 2013 and is currently responsible for the wheaten value chain of Essential Foods.

He has been with the Group for 16 years.
